Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree, I'm Stiffer than a Christmas Tree . . .
Hello all! Hope you had a nice Christmas and sorry I haven't updated for a few weeks! I have had a lesson since the last time - in summary, it was good, we mostly did compulsories and apparently I can give it attitude on the tango after all.
I have been soooooo lazy for the last week it is untrue. And eaten far too much. So, this morning, I decided to take myself in hand and drag myself to the rink for the first time in nearly two weeks (unfortunately the necessity of Christmas shopping got in the way of skating last week!). And previous to that, various panto's taking over the rinks . . .
One word to describe it really . . . sluggish. Like there is half a tonne of Christmas pudding in each leg. Actually, there probably IS half a tonne of Christmas pudding in each leg. And my skates feel like they have regressed a month in the breaking in process . . . ooooowwieeee!
Just did basics really - my mind wasn't sharp, and my body certainly wasn't. I haven't dared get on the scales since before Christmas (this from someone who weighs herself every morning usually!) but it feels like I am hefting a few extra pounds around after Christmas. Which is normal I know - but it amazes me to think how uncomfortable that is, yet I used to lug around a whole lot more than that!! Anyway, back on a healthy diet again as of today, so hopefully my mind and body will catch up soon :) Spins were pitiful as well - I hope it doesn't take a month to get back to my best five revs again!
Afterwards, I walked down through Alexandra Park in the frosty sunshine, which was glorious. I rarely get to do this, normally skating in the evening and it not being a very wise thing to do in the dark!
Time to start thinking about the new year now I suppose. Entries for the BAC's have to be in on the 15th January . . . and I am not confident that my free dance will be ready. My compulsories are fine - but I am not dragging myself off up to Sheffield just to do those. It doesn't bother me if I don't do the BAC's this year - but I want to do the Mountain Cup in June, and that is loads of time to get comfortable with my FD (which incidentally, still isn't finished!). Anyway - in my coaches words - we will leave it to the last minute and see what "state" my FD is in :) Doesn't feel like I'll master Choctaws in the next 8 weeks though!!! Let alone the big swoopy thing in my program . . .
What I am looking forward to is that I have booked off a short break to go and watch the ice dancing in the British Ice Figure and Synchronised Skating Championships in Nottingham. My coach is going and suggested that I should go and watch, and I am actually really looking forward to it. Plus, I love staying in hotels!
Happy New Year to everyone!!

Are you still working with D - rumour has it here that she has moved permanently to the USA? I said you'd know so I'd ask!
I don't know anybody who is doing the BAC, but we'd welcome you to - and look after you at - the Mountain Cup! Which is far and away the best competition of the year!
Yep - she's still my coach! She did go for a week recently, but she came back!!! She certainly hasn't told me of any plans to move there permanently :) And I'll sulk if she does . . .
I know a couple of people doing the BAC's at Lee Valley, but not many, admittedly.
...and thank you for saying that about the Mountain Cup :)
I was going to compete solo dance at this years BAC. It will be my very first singles skating competition. I was hoping you would be competing as I feel I already know you from reading your blog! I know of quite a few freeskating applicants from my rink, but not too many solo dancers.
Hi Anonymous - what a lovely thing to say! Sorry to disappoint, but am sure I will see you around at some competition soon! You'll have to email me to let me know who you are though :)
Good luck with the BAC's - let me know how you do!
